The result of a cross between Northern Brewer and a Golding-derived male variety, Vojvodina is a hop with mild bittering properties, a woody aroma and notes of cedar and tobacco. It has some of the noble aroma characteristics of Northern Brewer, but is more intense and perhaps a little more rounded.
Vojvodina was initially created in the late 1960’s at the Institute for Agricultural Research in Bački Petrovac in the former Yugoslavia in an attempt to replace Backa. Unsuccessful in that regard, commercial acreage remains scarce. It is the sibling of Dunav and Neoplanta and like Dunav, it features a reddish coloring on its main stem.
